The STAR Study is a prospective observational, longitudinal study examining antiretroviral drug resistance, pharmacokinetics (PK), and/or HIV reservoir characteristics among participants who are receiving antiretrovirals (ARVs) for HIV treatment or prevention (pre-exposure prophylaxis; PrEP).
Individuals are enrolled into one of the following groups:
SeroPrEP Group: enrolling individuals receiving ARVs for HIV Prevention
VIOLA Group: enrolling individuals receiving long-acting ART for HIV Treatment

Please review the group-specific eligibility criteria to see if your patient may be eligible for the study.
SeroPrEP Group: Potential HIV Acquisition on ARVs for HIV Prevention/PrEP
- Age >=18 years
- One or more HIV tests (e.g RNA, Ag/Ab) suggesting that HIV acquisition has occurred
- At least one of the following:
- Any use or receipt of oral tenofovir-based PrEP in the 3 months prior to enrollment
- Any long-acting PrEP use in the 18 months prior to enrollment
- Willing and able to provide informed consent
VIOLA Group: Viremia on Long-acting ARVs for HIV Treatment
Age >=18 years
One or more HIV RNA (viral load) tests with >=100 copies/ml after receipt of at least 2 doses of long-acting ART for HIV treatment
- Willing and able to provide informed consent
